Organization hopes to expand its presence in Victoria and recruit new
volunteers for November 22 ramp build.

The Texas Ramp Project is celebrating 40 years of service and more than 30,000 wheelchair ramps built for Texans in need — and now, the organization is hoping to expand its presence in Victoria.

The nonprofit provides free wheelchair ramps for low-income older adults and people with mobility challenges. Each ramp is built by volunteers, giving residents safe access to their homes and a renewed sense of independence.

Local volunteers will gather at Coleto Creek on Saturday, November 22, at 8:30 a.m. to
build a ramp as part of the organization’s statewide 40th-anniversary effort. From October 1 through November 30, volunteers across Texas are constructing “Anniversary Ramps” to mark the milestone.

Organizers are still looking for volunteers to join the November 22 build. The Texas
Ramp Project is also working to start up a permanent chapter in Victoria and is seeking strong, dedicated leaders to help guide the effort locally.

Since its founding in 1985, the Texas Ramp Project has expanded to 145 counties,
recruiting more than 3,000 volunteers annually. In 2024 alone, volunteers built more
than 2,700 ramps, with even more expected by the end of 2025. Each ramp costs less than $1,000 to construct and is provided at no cost to clients.
