The goal for United Fund of Cherokee County’s fall campaign was set by members of the board of directors at the annual budget hearing Monday.
The goal of $110,000 covers 18 non-profit agencies. The campaign with Crystal Bateman as chairman, will kick off in September.
During the hearing, representatives from each applying agency, were heard, with Bobbie Durham, vice president, presiding.
After all were heard, directors discussed each request and then set the budget.
Making requests were Allison Hale, speaking for H.O.P.E.; Joyce Henry, Parents Anonymous; Linda Cotton and Vera Smith, Good Samaritan in Rusk; Barbara Hugghins and Shirley Reese, Cherokee County Child & Family Services; Barbara Hugghins, Jacksonville Ministerial Alliance for Christmas Cheer.
Donald Hammock spoke for Cherokee County Crisis Center; Nancy Sonntag and Sam Hopkins, Jacksonville Literacy Council; Elton McCune, Andrea Grimes and Frank Waggoner, Gateway Partners; Lee Ann Mellender, CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates); Linda Oyer, East Texas Council on Alcoholism & Drug Abuse.
Tammy Carraway requested funds for Meals on Wheels; Ted Debbs for ACCESS; Tammy Prater and Mike McEwen for Red Cross; Margaret Permenter, Kim Dyess, Jessica Rines and Rhonda Edwards, Living Alternatives; Mickey Gear and Will Cumbie for Clothes Closet & More; John Laine and Jerry Halpain, Texas Ramp Project; Laura Wilson and Daniel Anderson, Boy Scouts of America; and Bruce Mehlenbacher for Salvation Army.
Allocations set for 2017, to be distributed quarterly to the agencies, providing the goal is achieved, include: H.O.P.E., $24,000; Parents Anonymous, $1,000; Good Samaritan, $2,500; Child & Family Services, $13,500; Christmas Cheer, $5,000; Crisis Center, $15,500; Literacy Council, $4,000; Gateway Partners, $10,000.
CASA, $2,500; ETCADA, $600; Meals on Wheels, $7,000; ACCESS, $1,000; Red Cross, $6,000; Living Alternatives, $2,000; Clothes Closet & More, $3,000; Ramp Project, $1,000; Boy Scouts, $2,400; Salvation Army, $3,000; and campaign expense, $6,000.
